WHAT IS NUBLAST CAPSULES?
Temozolomide interferes with the
development of cancer cells, slowing their growth and spread in the body.
Temozolomide is an anti-cancer (“antineoplastic” or
“cytotoxic”) chemotherapy drug. This medication is classified
as an “alkylating agent.
USES OF NUBLAST CAPSULES:
Temozolomide is used for the treatment
of anaplastic astrocytoma, glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) (types of brain tumors).
Temozolomide is classified as an alkylating agent. Alkylating agents are
most active in the resting phase of the cell. These drugs are cell-cycle
non-specific. Temozolomide is similar to the drug dacarbazine. It acts as
a “pro-drug” meaning it needs to be transformed to its active (cancer
fighting) form by the body’s metabolism.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS:
seizure (convulsions); fever, chills,
dry cough, feeling short of breath;
easy bruising, unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina, or
rectum), purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin;
low white blood cell counts–fever, swollen gums, painful
mouth sores, pain when swallowing, skin sores, cold or flu symptoms, cough,
trouble breathing; or
liver problems–nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tired
feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing
of the skin or eyes).
COMMON SIDE EFFECTS MAY
INCLUDE:
bruising, skin rash; loss of movement on
one side of the body; nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite;
diarrhea, constipation; headache, tired feeling, memory
problems; dizziness, weakness, loss of coordination;
sleep problems (insomnia); low white blood cell counts
(fever, flu symptoms); or hair loss.

Convulsion, Coordination disorder, Insomnia (difficulty in sleeping), Vomiting,
Weakness, Nausea, Loss of appetite, Hair loss, Fatigue, Fever, Diarrhoea,
Memory loss, Constipation, Hemiparesis (weakness on one side of the body.
DRUGS INTERACTIONS:
Take this medicine in the dose and
duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush
or break it. Nublast 100 mg Capsule is to be taken empty stomach.
Nublast 100 mg Capsule is an anti-cancer
medication. It enters the brain tissues and works by damaging the genetic
material (DNA and RNA) of the cancer cells. This stops their growth and
multiplication.
DRUGS PRECAUTIONS:
Swallow
full tablets on an empty stomach, one hour before your meal.
Avoid
being near people who are sick or have infections. Consult your doctor if you
develop symptoms of opportunistic infections (such as Pneumocystis jirovecii
pneumonia) and reactivation of infections (such as hepatitis B virus) Using
temozolomide may increase your risk of developing certain types of bone marrow
cancer. Be aware about your specific risk.
You may
be given medication to prevent nausea or other side effects while you are
receiving temozolomide.
Your
blood will be tested frequently during treatment to monitor the side effects of
temozolomide on your blood cells as you may have a small risk of other changes
in blood cells, including leukemia.
Avoid
activities that may increase your risk of bleeding or injury. Use extra care to
prevent bleeding while shaving or brushing your teeth.
Do not
drink alcohol while taking temozolomide.
Do not
drive or operate machinery while using temozolomide as it may make you tired or
sleepy.
Both
male and female patients should take effective contraceptive precautions during
and after 6 months of treatment. Male patients should seek advice on conservation
of sperm prior to treatment as temozolomide treatment may cause infertility.
