WHAT IS NEOCTIDE INJECTION?
Octreotide is a hormone drug that is
used to treat some types of cancer. Octreotide is a man-made protein that
is similar to a hormone in the body called somatostatin. Octreotide lowers many
substances in the body such as insulin and glucagon (involved in regulating
blood sugar), growth hormone, and chemicals that affect digestion.
USES
OF NEOCTIDE INJECTION:
Octreotide is given to
control symptoms such as diarrhea or flushing in patients with tumors such as
carcinoid, pancreatic islet cell tumors, gastrinoma, or vasoactive intestinal
peptide-secreting tumors (VIPomas). It is also used to treat acromegaly, when
the body produces too much growth hormone, and the hands, feet, face or head
grow too large.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS:
severe stomach pain or
tenderness, severe constipation; slow or uneven heartbeats;
severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back,
nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate;
high blood sugar–increased thirst, increased urination,
hunger, dry mouth, fruity breath odor, drowsiness, dry skin, blurred vision,
weight loss;
low blood sugar–headache, hunger, weakness, sweating,
confusion, irritability, dizziness, fast heart rate, or feeling jittery; or
underactive thyroid–extreme tired feeling, dry skin, joint
pain or stiffness, muscle pain or weakness, hoarse voice, feeling more
sensitive to cold temperatures, weight gain.
COMMON SIDE EFFECTS MAY
INCLUDE:
diarrhea, constipation;
vomiting, upset stomach; bloating, gas; headache, dizziness; or pain when
injecting the medicine.

Gallstones, Injection site reaction.
DRUGS INTERACTIONS:
Neoctide 0.05 mg Injection
is a similar to somatostatin, a substance normally found in the human body
which inhibits the effects of certain hormones such as growth hormone. It also
lowers the bleeding from the food pipe by constricting (narrowing) the blood
vessels.
Your doctor or nurse will
give you this medicine. Kindly do not self administer.
DRUGS PRECAUTIONS:
Seek medical attention if you experience
disturbances in your line of vision.
Your thyroid function and liver function will
be monitored during octreotide therapy.
Do not drive or operate machines while on
octreotide treatment as it may cause blurred vision and headache.
Inform your doctor if you are taking a
medicine to control your blood pressure or if you are a patient with diabetes.
If you are a woman of child bearing age,
effective contraceptive method should be adopted during treatment with
octreotide.
Tell your doctor if you are or planning to
become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
