WHAT
IS MITINAB TABLETS?

Imatinib
Mesylate is a targeted therapy. Imatinib Mesylate is classified as a signal
transduction inhibitor – protein-tyrosine kinase inhibitor. Imatinib mesylate
belongs to the signal transduction inhibitor category of targeted
therapies.  It is particularly a protein-tyrosine kinase inhibitor.

USES OF IMATINIB TABLETS:

 Imatinib
Mesylate is used for newly diagnosed adult and pediatric patients with
Philadelphia chromosome positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML) in chronic
phase. Ph+ CML in blast crisis, accelerated phase, or chronic phase after
failure of interferon-alpha therapy. Adult patients with relapsed or refractory
Philadelphia chromosome + acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL). Adult
patients with myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases (MDS/MPD) associated
with PDGFR gene rearrangements. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors that are C-kit
positive.

POSSIBLE SIDE
EFFECTS:

fluid
retention–shortness of breath (even while lying down), swelling, rapid weight
gain (especially in your face and midsection); fluid build-up in the
lungs–pain when you breathe, wheezing, gasping for breath, cough with foamy
mucus;

liver problems–upper stomach pain, dark urine, clay-colored
stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);

low blood cell counts–fever, chills, flu-like symptoms,
swollen gums, mouth sores, skin sores, rapid heart rate, pale skin, easy
bruising, unusual bleeding, feeling light-headed.


signs of stomach bleeding–bloody or tarry stools, coughing
up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;

signs of tumor cell breakdown–lower back pain, blood in your
urine, little or no urinating; numbness or tingly feeling around your mouth;
muscle weakness or tightness; fast or slow heart rate, weak pulse; confusion,
fainting; thyroid symptoms–extreme tired feeling, dry skin, joint pain or
stiffness, muscle pain or weakness, hoarse voice, feeling more sensitive to
cold temperatures.


severe skin reaction–fever, sore throat, swelling in your
face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple
skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes
blistering and peeling.

COMMON SIDE
EFFECTS MAY INCLUDE:

Nausea,
vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea; joint or muscle pain; skin rash; or feeling
tired.

DRUGS INTERACTIONS: 

Take
this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as
a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Mitinab 400 mg Tablet is to be taken
with food.

Mitinab 400 mg Tablet is an anti-cancer medication. It works by blocking the action of
the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps to stop
or slow the spread of cancer cells.

DRUGS PRECAUTIONS:

Always take Mitinab 400 mg
Tablet with food and a full glass of water.

Do not change the dose or
discontinue use without consulting your doctor.

Mitinab 400 mg Tablet may
cause dizziness or blurred vision. If this happens to you, do not drive or use
machinery.

Water retention and
swelling are very common side effects of Mitinab 400 mg Tablet. Notify your
doctor if you have unexpected rapid weight gain.

Notify your doctor about
all the medications you are taking, including over the counter medicines and
dietary supplements.
