Mechanism Of Action
Lanthanum carbonate is a non-calcium non-aluminium phosphate binder used for hyperphosphataemia in patients with chronic renal failure. It works by inhibiting phosphate absorption by forming highly insoluble lanthanum phosphate complexes thus reducing both serum phosphate and calcium phosphate product.
Pregnancy Safety Information
Category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
Lactation Safety Information
L4: POSSIBLY HAZARDOUS
There is positive evidence of risk to a breastfed infant or to breastmilk production, but the benefits of use in breastfeeding mothers may be acceptable despite the risk to the infant (e.g. if the drug is needed in a life-threatening situation or for a serious disease for which safer drugs cannot be used or are ineffective).
How it shold be taken
Should be taken with food. Take w/ or immediately after meals. Chew thoroughly before swallowing. Do not swallow whole.
PRECAUTIONS
Alert when utilized as a part of patients with intense peptic ulcer, ulceration colitis, Crohn’s illness or inside deterrent. Tablets ought to be completely bitten before gulping. Pregnancy and lactation.
